Choosing a futures prop trading platform: connection, license and workflow

Check the account connection before comparing charts. Then match the software edition and market-data subscription to the work you need to do.

Start with the account connection

Get the prop firm's supported platform list and account-specific connection instructions before buying software. Confirm the connection provider, required software version and account route; a familiar platform name alone does not establish that a particular prop account can connect.

NinjaTrader, for example, distinguishes signing in to a NinjaTrader account from configuring additional provider connections. Its desktop documentation requires Multi-provider to be enabled for those additional connections. Follow the firm's instructions for the actual provider and credentials rather than assuming a personal brokerage login is the prop-account route.

Match the software edition to your workflow

MotiveWave's published requirements and feature matrix illustrate three choices to resolve before buying an edition:

Separate software features from exchange data

Level I provides the best bid, best ask and last traded price. Level II adds displayed quantities at multiple price levels. Buying depth data does not by itself unlock a paid software feature, and buying an advanced software edition does not establish that your account has the required exchange subscription.

For example, MES is a CME contract and MGC is a COMEX contract. At Boxcar, a CME-only depth package covers MES but does not include COMEX depth for MGC. A platform switch cannot add that missing exchange entitlement; choose the data package for the contracts you actually use. Current packages and activation instructions are in the Level II guide.

Check what a multi-platform setup requires

There are two separate questions: can one application connect to multiple providers, and can multiple applications use your account connection? Quantower documents simultaneous provider connections as a paid-license feature. That software feature does not by itself confirm the prop firm's permissions or the data provider's session terms.

For the second case, Quantower documents a Rithmic plugin route through R Trader Pro. R Trader Pro must remain running, plugin mode must be enabled in both applications, and the credentials and server must match. This adds a running application to the setup, so verify that the firm's supported route fits your intended workstation. Use its account instructions for the server; a generic demo or real-account default is not a substitute.

Apply the choice to a Boxcar account

All Boxcar account types use Rithmic. Select an application from the current supported-platform guide, then open Trading Platforms in My Portal for its setup instructions. Software licenses or subscriptions may be separate.

Wait for the affected account's trading access to be ready and use its trading credentials, not the Boxcar website login. Evaluation and simulated-funded accounts use virtual funds; seeing live market data or connecting successfully does not designate an account as live. Live company-capital access requires Boxcar's express designation and a separate written agreement.
