Instant funded futures accounts vs. evaluations: what changes
An instant-funded futures account skips the evaluation stage. It can still be a simulated account with loss limits and conditions to meet before a payout. Compare the cost and rules of the funded stage you would reach through each route.
What changes at entry
Tradeify describes Lightning Funded as direct access to simulated-funded trading. Topstep takes traders through its simulated Trading Combine evaluation before its Express Funded Account, which is also simulated. Neither of these funded-stage examples is immediate entry to a live brokerage account.

| Question | Evaluation route | Instant-funded route |
|---|---|---|
| What must happen before funded trading? | Meet the evaluation conditions and complete the provider's funded-account setup. | No evaluation pass is required; account setup and eligibility checks can still apply. |
| Which rules apply to the first trade? | The evaluation rules; funded rules must be checked again after passing. | The purchased funded program's rules from the start. |
| What makes a payout possible? | Reach the funded stage, then satisfy its payout conditions. | Satisfy the funded program's payout conditions; buying access alone does not qualify. |

Compare the cost of reaching funded access
Billing depends on the program, not the entry label. Topstep's Trading Combine uses a monthly subscription; Tradeify lists both its evaluations and Lightning Funded as one-time purchases. Topstep also distinguishes an activation-fee route from a No Activation Fee Trading Combine.
Add the purchase or subscription charges, any funded activation fee, resets or replacement purchases, and required data or platform costs. Compare the same endpoint: access to the funded stage.
Hypothetical example: an evaluation costs $80 per billing period plus $120 to activate after passing. A direct simulated-funded account costs $300 once. Assume no resets, replacements, extras or discounts, and no further evaluation billing after passing.
- In this example, the evaluation route costs less through two billing periods and more at three.
- If either account fails, add its actual reset or replacement terms separately. Do not assume the two routes buy another attempt at the same price.
| Evaluation billing periods before passing | Evaluation fees plus activation | Direct-funded purchase |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $80 + $120 = $200 | $300 |
| 2 | $160 + $120 = $280 | $300 |
| 3 | $240 + $120 = $360 | $300 |

Check the first payout, not just the first trade
An evaluation target is a condition for leaving evaluation; a funded payout goal is a condition for requesting money. Skipping the first does not necessarily remove the second.
For Tradeify Lightning Funded accounts purchased after September 12, 2025 at 8:00 AM EST, the $50K account has a $3,000 first-payout profit goal and a 20% first-payout consistency requirement. Its first request is capped at $2,000. The $3,000 goal therefore does not mean $3,000 can be withdrawn. Tradeify states that the trader receives 90% of the requested payout; an approved $2,000 request gives a $1,800 share before any payment fees.
The same policy lists no separate minimum trading-day count, but the profit goal and consistency rule still apply. Request submission, approval and payment are separate steps. Compare these conditions with the funded account earned through the evaluation.

Compare the funded rules on both routes
A matching $50K label does not establish matching loss room or contract limits. Tradeify's $50K Lightning account, for example, lists a $2,000 trailing maximum drawdown and a separate $1,250 daily loss limit. Its floor updates at end of day but is enforced during the session. Record these constraints for the funded stage of both options before weighing the fee difference.
- Loss room: compare the drawdown amount, how the floor moves, its breach trigger and any daily limit.
- Position access: compare the starting contract allowance and any scaling requirement, not just the maximum advertised size.
- After a breach: check whether a reset, reactivation or new purchase is available, which stage it restores, and its cost.

Where Boxcar fits into the two routes
BoxcarPrime, BoxcarScale and BoxcarPayout begin with evaluation; BoxcarFunded begins simulated-funded. Use the plan comparison and BoxcarFunded rules below for the current position limits, loss limits and payout conditions.
Boxcar's program launches October 1, 2026. A purchase before launch does not provide early program trading access.
